What's up Windy City!
December already; and with it, reflections on another year at Windy City. At the end of the day (year), the biggest thing to celebrate is you...our members. Welcome new coaches!
We'd like to officially welcome our new coaches, who you've likely met around the gym. Welcome to the team Taylor, Small Paul, Travis and Esther! Let's give these new coaches a big Windy City welcome (and a high five) next time you see them.
Big thanks to coaches Paul Clark and Ox for their skills and commitment to helping Windy City members live their best lives. Paul and Ox are moving on from our gym, and we wish them the best in their next adventures!
LIVE BIG - yes it is our creed and yes we hope that every WCSC member can fulfill their own personal version of it. This month's AOM is certainly exemplifying it. Andy "Sausage" Kucharski has been a member with us since December of 2013. In all that time Sausage has always had a way of ingratiating himself into our gym's community as well as pushing himself both mentally and physically while working out. It was this last year though that really caught our attention. Not only was he continuing to grind at the gym, run a company and raise two awesome young boys, but all of a sudden he was transforming into Windy City's own personal version of Where's Waldo. The 6:30 am crew would wonder why he wasn't in class only to discover on social media that Sausage was getting his sweat on at another CrossFit gym while traveling in places like Texas, Maryland, and San Francisco. Five minutes later we'd open our phone and see that Sausage was now in Dublin hiking, Colorado summiting three different 14,000 foot mountains or rock climbing in the Philippines. He also competed in a Ragnar race with his friends out west this past summer, won a skeet shooting contests and took his boys camping. Seriously though, it doesn't get much better than that. Live like Sausage...live BIG!
STAFF FAVE FOUR
Here's a list of what we're loving and learning this month:
Justin: Book I'm reading
Zen And The Art Of Motorcyle Maintenance -- Have started this one a few times, but never finished. I'm determined this time.
Eloise: Things I'm loving
Whoop—Being an elite athlete, I have to stay on top of my recovery and stress to maximize my performance in competition and daily training sessions. Whoop gives me the feedback and insight I need to make sure that I'm optimizing my body and mind. Life changing.
Taylor: What I'm watching
Queer Eye—I love seeing how they can make such a postivie impact on peoples lives. They also can make you laugh a lot.
- Chris: Adventure I'm planning
Santa Fe, New Mexico—Because I have two flight vouchers I need to use before the end of 2019 and I've never been to the southwest, so what the heck, I've been told it is a funky town.
ARTICLE OF THE MONTH
Quick. Sit down on the floor. Now, can you rise to a standing position without using your hands? No? I’m sorry to break it to you, but your chance of dying is substantially higher compared to someone who can. At least that’s what a series of studies done by Brazilian physician Claudio Gil Araujo seem to suggest.
